Spring in to May Days

As the marvelous month of May moves on, and June jumps in, there are a lot of fun activities to look forward to this week in Palm Beach County!

In West Palm Beach, it’s the first Spring Art Festival this weekend! It will be May 26th through May 28th at 925 North Railroad Avenue. Please contact rb@danieliartworld.com for any further information.

An interesting exhibit at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is Pen to Paper: Artists Hand-Written Letters, from the Smithsonian Archives of American Art. The exhibition is on display through June 5th.

Spring into May

There are so many activities that are still springing up this May in Palm Beach County!

One of the most exciting events of the week is the grand opening of Reynold’s Ranch Jupiter, this Sunday on May 21st from 12 PM to 3 PM. There will be a live broadcast of Jill and Rich from The Morning Lounge on Legends Radio 100.3. FM. Burt will be there himself to cut the ribbon! There will be food, live entertainment, petting zoo, pony rides, and free tickets to Burt’s show coming up at the Eissey Theater on June 1st. Fun for the entire family, and a chance to see the beautiful new sample home.

Another exciting event coming up is the 1st Annual West Palm Beach Spring Art Festival on May 26th, 27th and 28th at 925 North Railwood Avenue in West Palm Beach. It’s being hosted by the Danieli Art World Gallery. There will be art demonstrations, food, drinks, live music and a DJ. Many famous local and international talent will be at this fabulous event. For more fun in West Palm Beach, on the 20th head to the Bowery in CityPlace. The Palm Beach Pinup Party, with “Popeye” as your host from Memory Lane, and a dozen other singers and dancers and performers of all types. What a great night!

On the 23rd we welcome back, Billy Stritch and Jim Caruso, doing their Cast Party from New York’s Birdland at the Crest Theatre at Old School Square in Delray Beach. There will be dozens of entertainers getting up and sharing their talent. A wonderful night! A special treat will be to see my 13 year-old discovery Ava Faith.

The Tony-Award Winning Monty Python stage show Spamalot is coming to Rinker Playhouse At the Kravis Center. It will be there from May 19th through June 4th. Get your tickets for a silly and fun experience!

An interesting combination of events, a yoga and beer pairing that features a 75 minute yoga class at 736 Park Avenue this Saturday at noon, after which attendees walk over to the Brewhouse Gallery to try some of the craft beers. Sounds like fun to me! More online at theinnerbrew.com.

Movie pick of the week: Gifted. A story about a child prodigy that takes place in a coastal town in Florida. Starring Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace.

Marvelous May

There’s a lot to do in May in Palm Beach County! Things may slow down a bit, but it’s a chance to smell the roses…

On May 17th at 7 PM at the Eissey Campus Theatre it’s a jazzy kind of night. A Tribute to Santana is presented by Gyorgy Lakatos. Call 954-461-7577 for more information.

West Palm Beach at the Waterfront has a schedule of wonderful free events. Clematis by Night features live music on Thursday, and on Friday May 12th you can see Screen on the Green, showing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, from 8 PM until 11 PM at the Waterfront Commons.

Baby Boomer Baby is now showing through May 28th at the PGA Art Center. Written and starring National Lampoon’s Tommy Koenig – should be hilarious and wildly entertaining!

Friday May 12th from 6 PM to 9 PM at the Hibiscus House in West Palm Beach is Tony Silver on guitar with his friend Joe Demko. They’ll be playing everything from acoustic to rock n’ roll and funk! A great place for music and munchies.

Monday nights at the Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton it’s Blues Night! Go and enjoy yourself, it will be wonderful entertainment. We look forward to seeing Mark Telesca, guitarist and singer, back at the helm in the fall to share his talent with us.

Good food, music and an all around great atmosphere. — Mark Telesca – can’t wait to see you singing and playing the blues.

My movie pick of the week: Richard Gere stars in Norman – the moderate rise and tragic fall of a New York fixer.

There’s a buzz in the art world this week: at the Gavlak Gallery in Palm Beach off Worth Avenue, it’s Maynard Monrow’s exhibition of “Under the Influence.” It’s all about his work that is done with words.

Whether you’re a snow bird or you’re here to stay for the summer in Florida, it’s time to pull out those whites, pastels and lightweight clothing.

A fun thing to do is: My Life On A Diet, with Renee Taylor. She’s hysterical! It’s at Mizner Park Cultural Center in Boca on March 30th and April 1st – don’t miss!

A must-see event! — Renee is known for playing the mother of Fran Drescher in the TV show ‘The Nanny’ – she’s hilarious!

Before all the Easter Egg hunts begin, check out an exhibit at the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens – Rising: The Mystical World of Sophie Ryder – April 30th.

My movie pick of the week: Beauty and the Beast. A must-see for the entire family. Try to see it on the IMAX screen. A wonderful film.

On April 3rd it’s the final event of the Cultural Council of the Palm Beaches, it’s Culture & Cocktails: An interview with Rob Russell and Jill & Rich Switzer. Informative and entertaining!

Talking about The Colony, one of my favorite crooners is Michael Masci! He tickles the ivories and does his crooning thing at the Polo Lounge every Tuesday through Thursday night during the season. Hop over there, and make sure you don’t miss him – he’s a treat!

If you want to slow down the pace a bit, do a walking history tour at the West Palm Beach Green Market on April 1st at 10 AM. Join local historian and architect Rick Gonzalez for a fun and lively morning tour. For further information, go to wpb.org/events.

Everyone is green with envy this St. Patty’s Day in Palm Beach County!

It may take more than a four-leaf clover, but try to score a seat to Steve Tyrell at the Royal Room at The Colony Hotel. He captivates the audience, and it’s a wonderful show.

On March 19th it’s Deborah Silver at The Colony’s Royal Room to celebrate the The Society of the Preservation of the Great American Songbook. Another wonderful event!

March 17th to the 19th it’s Program 4 featuring Who Cares? Miami City Ballet performs at the Kravis featuring George Balanchine and more. Exciting to watch.

Just a heads up, but during the construction phase at the Norton Museum, admission is free for all! Can’t beat that…It’s Deco Japan: Shaping Art & Culture from the 1920s to 1945 at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. What a treat!

It’s Mo-town and tacos at Banko Cantina in downtown West Palm Beach on Tuesday nights. Bring a crowd of friends – it’s a party!

Through April 9th at the Wick Theatre in Boca Raton, we’ve got the toe-tappin’ Guys and Dolls.

For you dog lovers out there, my movie pick of the week is A Dog’s Purpose. Heartwarming.
