Fourth of July

What better place to celebrate our nation’s birthday than one of its historic islands! Nantucket is an absolutely magical place to have the Fourth of July.

Downtown Main Street becomes the hub for all kinds of patriotic themed events. There are pie-eating contests, games, and of course a parade! It’s a wonder to witness all the beautiful houses in bloom.

The annual fireworks display on Jetties Beach is so fabulous, and it seems like each year is better than the year before! Flags are hanging high from all the homes, and everyone is having picnics on the beach. I like to enjoy the spectacle with a nice bottle of rosé.

I’m now on island for the summer season, so be sure to schedule your stylist appointment by calling me at (917) 209 – 0516 or emailing bonnie@bonnieroseman.com. Don’t forget to wear your patriotic combination of red, white and blue for the holiday!

Nantucket Film Festival

I am so exited for this year’s annual Nantucket Film Festival! Founded by the brother-sister team Jill and Jonathan Burkhart ten years ago, NFF has blossomed into a prestigious event attended by visitors from all over the world. This year’s treasure trove of films look especially grand!

Annabelle Hooper and the Ghosts of Nantucket will have its world premiere at the festival. It looks to be a fun family feature spotlighting some of the island’s oldest legends: in this case, the “Widow in White,” a famous island ghost story.

From director Ryan White, documentary film Serena traces the unstoppable career of tennis champion Serena Williams – how does she handle all the pressure, and the fame?

There will be documentary shorts, narrative shorts, and even film shorts for kids. One of my favorite events to attend is Morning Coffee With… Each day of the festival, comedian Eddie Brill hosts a fun chat between writers and directors attending the festival, and it is always as insightful as it is lively.

When putting together a wardrobe for a creative event such as a film festival, I like to have a little fun! Since the opening night feature film is Finding Dory, I will select pieces as colorful and textured as the coral reefs, to celebrate the undersea adventure.

The early summer weather in Nantucket could be anything! It can start out chilly, and then warm up, and then get cold….You have to be prepared to have a layered look. It’s best to pack along a lightweight coat, a cashmere sweater, and a scarf to “tie” your look together.

The Nantucket Film Festival takes place from June 22nd through June 27th. See the full film program here, and if you attend, I may see you there!

Bonnie’s BLT in Full Bloom

Spring is in full bloom here in Palm Beach, and so is the cultural scene this month, packed with music, art and fashion events, as abundant as the gorgeous flowers!

I am in love with Mother Nature!

It was a treat to go to the Coral Springs Museum and view Yuroz’s new works on canvas. I am always inspired by nature when it comes to my fashion designing, so it was amazing to see an artist’s use of color with Nature as the subject! Thank you to Lauri Welteroth for introducing me to this talent and to Bruce Helander for putting on such a fabulous exhibit of new works by Yuroz at the Coral Springs Museum.  Don’t miss this show, ending May 28th.

Yuroz Exhibition – Coral Springs Museum

The Culture and Cocktails series ended on a high note, musically speaking!  Three top pianists of the cabaret world, David Crohan, Copeland Davis and Wayne Hosford, performed in fine form on instruments that were each a work of art.

March Madness

I may not be in “New York, New York,” but it certainly felt like I was a few nights ago at The Kravis. Billy Stritch and Carole Bufford did a tribute to Kander and Ebb with Marissa Mulder! I really do live in a town that never sleeps…

I attended the Cultural Council of Palm Beach’s Culture & Cocktails: Art & Architecture, featuring an interview with the director of the Hearst Foundation, Gilbert C. Maurer, and spotted my client wearing one of my designer jackets! Shirley Cowan looks fabulous as always, especially in leopard.

People come from all over the world for our Palm Beach parties, and this time locals and visitors alike were lining the streets of West Palm Beach for the Evening on Antique Row. There were fabulous food trucks, amazing entertainment, and each antique filled boutique was serving tasty treats. Guests enjoyed exquisite artwork while listening to live music as they strolled up and down Antique Row.

On March 14th I watched Jill Switzer and her trio perform at her brand new CD Release Party at the Colony Hotel. I am so proud to have witnessed the expansion of her phenomenal singing career. She is not only generous with sharing her talent, but made sure her event was for a great cause – proceeds helped benefit the Society for the Preservation of the Great American Songbook. Rich Switzer was on piano and sax, Paul Shewchuk was on bass and Cielo Blue played on drums.

The fun didn’t stop there and the art and culture continued, to a ‘tea.’ I took a collage master class from world famous artist Bruce Helander, and created a piece I’m calling “Mad Hatters Tea Party.”

I was also able to enjoy the culture of France without leaving Florida, thanks to a fundraiser for the Palm Beach Theater Guild. ‘Nights in Paris’ brought to life Paris’s historic and vivid arts and culture scene – it felt like we were at the Moulin Rouge. C’est magnifique!

Nights in Paris – The Opera, Salons and the Moulin Rouge

As I march toward the end of the month, I’ll be enjoying the sweet sounds of the Kravis Pops Orchestra in the Dreyfoos Concert Hall, directed by Michael Feinstein on Wednesday, March 30th. I’ve known Michael since before he recorded his first album, and now he’s a multiple Grammy-award winner. I am so proud to witness all of his success, and call myself a friend and fan for so many years.

As a big finish to all the March Madness, I’m lucky enough to see a comedian for the big finale. Just like her ‘pop’ George Carlin, I’m hoping Kelly Carlin live on Thursday the 31st will mean March will go out like a lion – since we’ll all be roaring with laughter!
