The Maine Event/Lobster and More Portland

Portland, Maine – one of the most beautiful spots to visit during the summer months. Cool and delicious!

You’re going to go for a boat ride on Casco Bay! There are wonderful ways to enjoy the Portland area, including sight-seeing tours that are aboard a vintage fire engine and fun for the entire family.

There are fabulous restaurants – the culinary scene is quite sophisticated. In the area of the old historic town, they probably have the freshest lobster in the United States.

As crazy as it may seem, they have a Wacky Adventure Walk Game that is for everyone of all ages and more fun than you can imagine. For the more serious minded, the Portland Art Museum has an excellent collection of Fine Art.

To top it all off, they have the Allagash Brewery, which has an incredible selection of beers. You can get a tour to see how it’s all produced, and get samples of various brews.

Nation’s Capital Entertainment

The month of July celebrates our nation’s independence, and what better place to be than our nation’s Capital! There’s nothing like it.

Luckily, there are many free events, such as Jazz in the Garden on Fridays. Throughout the summer, there are concerts held in the National Gallery of the Art’s sculpture section. The Folklife Festival is also free, and it’s in its final weekend at the National Mall.

There is one place that’s truly an unforgettable experience for kids. The Smithsonian is doing a sleepover at the National Museum of Natural History! The age range of the event is children ages 8 to 12 years old, and parents are welcome to help supervise. What a fun event!

I’m on the Grey Lady, Nantucket Island, 33 miles from the mainland of the United States! What a beautiful spot to spend the summer.

On the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, Nantucket is the place you want to be! You can bike for miles – it’s a 16 mile island by 3 miles wide.

There are many wonderful museums on island to explore: The Whaling Museum, The Shipwreck Museum, The Basket Museum, just to name a few.

Originally, the island was inhabited by the Wampanoags Indians, and then the white men came over in the mid 1600s. The oldest house on the island still remains, and is available for tours.

Bonnie Takes a Bite out of the Big Apple

I’ll be buzzing all over the country this summer, and telling you all about my favorite places and things to do.

It’s been 6 years since Feinstein’s 54 Below opened their doors, and they have some of the best Cabaret Shows in the United States, not just New York City. Go there on a Friday night – they have a show at 7 PM, 9:30 PM, and at 11:30 PM they have the National Touring Cast of Chorus Line doing a concert. Always interesting – go online to 54below.com to checkout 54 Below.

A night out at 54 Below

Another one of my favorite activities in New York is to go to Birdland on a Monday night and go to the Cast Party! Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch are favorites of mine and I love a chance to see them – they always have incredible people come in and share their talent. It’s at 315 West 44th Street, and it always starts around 9:30 PM. Check it out here!

Live at Birdland

Of course you always know I go to a show on Broadway, and this year, one of the best of the 2018 season is Angels in America, Tony Kushner’s original 1993 masterpiece has returned to Broadway….If you can manage to get a ticket! It’s a must-see!

Bonnie and Billy Stritch

Fun for the entire family, another Broadway Show: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, one of the most fun musicals of the season. Get whisked away to the wondrous fantasy world!

Showing now on Broadway

Another one of the things to top my list is the Georgia Okeefe’s Exhibit that’s taking place this month at the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. It will be in their Conservatory, where they’ll be showing some of her fabulous paintings that she did in Hawaii, that haven’t been shown in New York since the 1940s, side by side with some of the most beautiful flowers and plants. A must-see!

Georgia O’Keefe

And of course, strolling through Central Park can’t be beat! Between the zoo, the pond, the lakes, incredible trees…And of course, those Elms.
