The Land of Enchantment: Santa Fe New Mexico

This week it’s all about the Land of Enchantment, Santa Fe, New Mexico!

The first thing you want to do when you get to this beautiful city is to go to the Plaza. You can sign up for walking tours along the Historic Railroad District, and Canyon Road where there are dozens of galleries lining the streets.

Santa Fe Railroad District

My favorite gallery on Canyon Road is New Concepts Gallery. There are always fabulous new pieces from contemporary artists – stop by and see for yourself!

After that, you’ll want to take a ride up to the ski basin to Ten Thousand Waves. It’s a beautiful area with views of downtown Santa Fe. You can get a massage, and even relax in a hot tub in the middle of the forest. Just magical!

View from Ten Thousand Waves

In a town of beautiful adobe buildings, there’s the famous Santa Fe Farmer’s Market! It’s one of the largest farmer’s markets in the United States with over 150 vendors and hundreds of different agricultural products. Not to be missed!

The art scene in Santa Fe is unbeatable in the summer months. Visit the International Folk Art Market, the largest in the world with 160 artists from 53 countries. There’s also the Santa Fe Indian Market, which takes place the third week of August in the downtown Plaza with over 1,000 of the best Native American artists.

One of my favorite galleries outside of Santa Fe in a little town called Glorieta is Gallery Zipp, in a 200-year-old farmhouse. A husband and wife team, Bunny Tobias and Charles Greeley, will share their art, along with a beautiful collection of other local artists.

When it comes to the music scene, the Santa Fe Opera is happening through August 26th. It’s their 61st season, with five different operas, in one of the most beautiful settings I’ve ever seen. Get your tickets online at santafeopera.org.

There’s also the Chamber Music Festival, from July 16th to August 21st. There are over 40 different concerts this season! Check the online schedule here.

A special favorite of mine is Doug Montgomery at Vanessie Santa Fe. It’s a little restaurant piano bar and Doug sings and plays. A wonderful way to spend an evening, and a delicious one too!

Rocky Mountain High

Bonnie’s buzzing around the country this summer, and Bonnie Loves to Travel! I’ll be sharing with you all the wonderful spots in the United States and what to do when you get there.

This week it’s all about Rocky Mountain High, and Aspen, Colorado is the place to be! Aspen is home of the Food & Wine Festival, the Aspen Art Museum, International Music Festival, and the ballet.

Lot’s to explore in Aspen.

On the Fourth of July, a parade runs down the old part of town down Main Street and fireworks are all over the Aspen mountains. Bike ride down to the Rio Grande Trail all the way down Valley to Basalt, and then cheat and take the bus back to town.

4th of July Parade in Aspen, Colorado.

Make sure you stop at the Woody Creek Tavern, a must for everyone for a fabulous lunch and a way to recharge the battery.

Wood Creek Tavern – great place to grab a bite.

Hike around Maroon Bells. It’s amazing, the most breathtaking part of the Rockies. You can even take public transportation! They have buses that take you right to the trailhead, and you can take beautiful pictures. You can even take a gondola up Aspen Mountain for a view of the entire Aspen Valley, and the view of the Continental Divide.

People go to Aspen to ski in the winter, but the summers are gorgeous! The music festival brings loads of people from all over the United States and Europe.

Aspen Musical Festival – enjoy music and the outdoors at the same time!

On Sunday afternoons you can go and sit on a blanket and have a picnic and listen to the visiting orchestra for free. Also, there are wonderful exhibitions at the Aspen Art Museum.

Aspen Art Museum, CO

On July 22nd and 23rd, Aspen has a fabulous art festival for free, right in the center of town. There will be beautiful sculptures, photography, glass, painting, ceramics, jewelry, and fantastic food to boot.

It’s live from the Grey Lady this week, and Bonnie is buzzing around the island of Nantucket. It’s 33 miles from Cape Cod, and there’s much activity going on here!

This week starts off with the 22nd annual Nantucket Film Festival, June 21st through the 26th. The festival features over 70 films from all over the world, with many of the screenwriters, directors and actors on island to talk about the films. Check it out at www.nantucketfilmfestival.org.

On Saturday June 24th at 10 am, there is an amazing charity event for A Safe Place. It’s a fundraiser event in which men walk in women’s shoes to raise awareness about violence against women. It’s called “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” – are you man enough? It should be quite an event!

One classic feature of Nantucket’s landscape are the many beautiful and historical lighthouses to explore, and there are tours of the oldest house on island, which was built in 1686. It’s just a fascinating place!

Raven’s Walk is another great Nantucket adventure. A gal will take you on a guided tour of all the haunted houses on the island, and tell you the stories of who lived there and how they died. A fun and mysterious evening walk through the cobblestone streets of Nantucket.

There are over 82 miles of pristine beaches on the island. With shells and sand and wave action that varies from one side of the island to the other, you’re in for some breathtaking views.

Dress it up, or down - there are beaches all over town!

The island is only 14 miles long by 3.5 miles wide, but there is so much to see! Thirty-five miles of bike paths cover the island to give you the opportunity to get up close and personal with nature, see the beauty of the island, and keep the traffic level down. I highly recommend it!

You're sure to see window boxes full of flowers on your bike ride.

There are so many farms developing on the island that it’s becoming a sustainable island. The food is so fresh and delicious. The farm tour at Bartlett’s Farm enables you to pick your own strawberries and tomatoes. What fun!

On the island, there are hundreds of artists who reside here year round. Due to their presence, ACK has developed The Nantucket Artist’s Association. During the summer there are exhibitions weekly. Local galleries and antique dealers are willing to share some of Nantucket’s richest history through their beautiful objects of art.

B Equals Broadway in the Big Apple

This week’s Buzz is all about the letter “B!” Broadway and the Big Apple!

If you’re going up to New York this week, it’s exciting. The Tony Awards have all been given out, and there’s a few picks of my own that I recommend. On Monday night, go to Birdland. It’s Legend’s Radio’s New York Minute, Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch at the helm and a Cast Party! All the top stars from Broadway come and share their talent – not to be missed!

Ava Faith, Jim Caruso, and Me

At the top of everybody’s list is Hello Dolly this season with Bette Midler. A tough ticket, but a must-see. A few new shows on the pike that everyone’s talking about: Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 starring Josh Groban, and Come From Away, which is absolutely heartwarming. A revival that everyone is raving about is Miss Saigon – it’s absolutely phenomenal. Get your tickets for any of these fantastic shows online at www.broadway.com.

It's a hot season for Broadway!

A personal favorite: War Paint, starring Christine Ebersole and Patti LuPone. Christine’s been a friend of mine for 35 years. She’s won two Tony Awards! Patti LuPone is also a major star on Broadway and a Tony Award winner. They play Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein – with set designs, and costumes, and voices like that it’s not to be missed!

Everybody is talking about the dramatic plays this season. A Doll’s House Part 2 with Laurie Metcalf and Chris Cooper and we have Oslo, about the Middle East Peace talks of 1993. We also have The Little Foxes, Lillian Hellman’s play, starring Cynthia Nixon and Laura Linney on alternate nights. And, we have Kevin Kline and Noel Coward in Present Laughter.

Fabulous shows to catch this season on Broadway.

My last recommendation is Dear Evan Hansen. It’s at the top of just about everyone’s list. There are many other fabulous plays on Broadway this season- get a ticket to a show if you can!

It’s a sizzling summer in Manhatten. Remember that as I’m buzzing around the country, the letter “B” is my favorite letter, but I have all the letters, A through Z, as part of my Bonnie Roseman BLT Collection of accessories. I have your favorite letter too, dipped in silver or gold, which can make a fabulous necklace or belt – a great addition to any wardrobe.
